oil pan hung up on oil pickup/return line

I'm deep into trying to do my rod bearings.
I have everything disassembled, including all of the oil pan bolts.
When I try to lower the oil pan, it gets hung up inside, near where the oil pickup and return lines criss cross. The pan is not contacting anything else, and I have tried every different angle I can think of.
The pan has a baffle welded in, and the pickup line is reinforced.

Any ideas?

Put your car details into your signature. That way people can actually help you rather than guessing what your problem is.

My guess is that you have an '87+ turbo car, which comes with the oil level sensor. You first need to remove that sensor from the oil pan (3 M8 bolts I think). It can be quite interesting trying to get this piece out of the oil pan, but with enough twisting and contorting you should be able to figure it out.

Once you get that out, it will still take some twisting and contorting of the oil pan itself to get it out, but it's not that difficult to do.

Good luck, Keith

+1 the oil level sensor will cause exactly this problem. It's very easy to remove though: pull it out until it stops, then rotate it upside down and it will come out easily enough. Unfortunately the plastic float on the end is very easy to damage from trying to remove the pan....and they are not cheap. If you don't see a plastic float on the end when you remove it, it's in your oil pan somewhere in pieces.

The pickup tube can get in the way a little, but lowering or raising the pan on one side should get you past that easily enough.

Ditto that oil level sensor. I did the same. Take it out. Pan drops easily
