944 Turbo Cup

Hi

Could anyone help me with a few questions regarding the 944 Turbo Cup race cars.

1) How many were built & approx how many survive?
2) Where did this series run ? (I know it was here in South Africa for 2 years.)
3) How were these cars different to std 944 turbos?

Thanks a ton

there was a post in the 924/944 forums ages ago, before this turbo forum existed. the guy that posted explained the differences, showed photos. He was swiss.
from memory it had sum exotic splashings of magnesium, etc in the suspension, a factory rollcage, and no glove box. Im sure theres more, just do a search on the said forum

Hi Steve,
I am one Cup owner on this board.
You can check www.asarus.com for good details and references. my car is there on the "recensement" page of the Turbo Cup chapter, along with my mail (Georges Krompecher).

Hi Steve,

As GeorgeK said, you should find most of the replies on my site (www.asarus.com).

To reply quickly to your questions :

1* some cars built in 1986 (220 hp and closer to the street version than other cup cars)
other cars built in 1987, 1988 and 1989 (25 units) in 250 hp at the beginning. See the numbers on my site.
Only 35 to 40 of these cars got the 290 hp (in reality a bit more than 300 hp) evolution and they were only the French Cup cars in 1990
How many survived.. ? that a good question and i try to recense all the existing ones...

2* Series were run in France, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, South Africa (and maybe somewhere else). From 1986 to 1990 depending on the country (France : 1987 to 1990. Germany : 1986 to 1989)

3* Way to long to reply here... See on my site, there's a full (or almost) description of the changes...
