Removing the exhaust pipes
I have removed the wastegate and associated pipes. The question is about removing the pipes that feed the exhaust into the turbo and from the turbo. If I remove the 3 nuts holding the inlet pipe to the turbo inlet pipe can I remove the inlet pipe with the silencer? Does this make it easier to remove the 4 nuts and bolts on the exhaust side of the turbo?
Does it make sense to remove the brake master cylinder shield and the master cylinder to get more room to get at these fixings? |

Most people remove the master cylinder heat shield to get at those 4 bolts, but it's not necessary if you have the right tools.
Yes, remove the OUTLET pipe (with the catalytic converter) with those 3 bolts attaching it to the downpipe off the turbo exhaust. You will also have to remove the entire crossover pipe, disconnecting it from the 2 header pipes. Look at some of the MANY writeups available online about doing this job, it will help you. You have some tricky bolts to remove, attaching the downpipe to block, and one holding the turbo to the DS engine mount bracket.

I think this is the easiest method.
