Help to ID 951 transaxle
I'm considering adding another Porsche to the garage, specifically, an 89 944 that has had a 951 drivetrain installed. The tranaxle is also claimed to be from a 951. Had it up on the hoist for an inspection today. The transaxle has a finned oil cooler loop on it, was this stock or is it something special?
On a different note, looks like exhaust breakage have been a plenty on this car, lots of repairs evident. Is the 951 prone to exhaust system cracking around the downpipes, crossovers and turbo etc? Thanks guys

The headers can break which is some what common... Pretty common if the balance shaft belt isn't properly installed and the balance shafts are slightly out of alignment. Can't say I've seen the crossover or downpipe fail via cracks. If it is properly fixed (hold exhaust) I wouldn't worry about the repairs.
The transaxle cooler loop is not aftermarket and is indeed factory. But, not all transmissions have it. What you really need to properly ID the trans is the trans code which is on top of the housing... extremely hard to see when the transmission is in the car. What you would really want would be a LSD transaxle. With the car off the ground, do the rear wheels spin in the opposite direction or the same?
