Day 1 of 944 Turbo Ownership...and it begins!

I just bought a 1986 944 Turbo and I am into projects already. Pictures pending. This is one fun car to drive and so much different than my SC Targa.

The timing belts, while they do not have many miles, they are old and I plan to change them. I'm guessing the water pump will be fine due to low miles and not as affected by age like the belts but welcome support and opinions on that

The turbo coolant pump worked during inspection, but not now. I grounded the temp sensors and the pump runs but seems very weak and no flow showing in the coolant reservoir. It struggles so I guess it is shot. Has anyone experienced a struggling turbo coolant pump?

total inop when I got my car, rolling chassis project with most stuff in boxes.

been too long to recall where I got a replacement, dont think it was an OEM Porsche unit.

I also have a Cararra 3.2 targa. love em both. the 944 turbo was built into a street/DE car when I decided to retire the 911 from DE, now returned to stock... mostly.

good luck on the refresh and have fun with both of them.

Many scoff at the Targa but they are aging well and looking better each year. I justify it as my safe motor cycle and look forward to the next Italian tune up Tracker!

Make sure the turbo pump is bad...? =
Disconnect and remove pump, get a 2 1/2 gal bucket (fill with water) raise it above the pump , run a hose from the intake side of the pump and the other end under the water to the bottom of the bucket put a brick on it to hold the hose to in place, prime the hose and make sure you have water in the pump, hook up you battery charger, turn on the charger... if it pumps water out like it should, it's good, if not remove the pump, drain and blow it out with shop air... fill it with Sea Foam and let it sit over night...repeat the above next day... if it still doesn't work then buy a (NEW) (one only)... unless u personally know the guy you are buying the used one from!
Ron...
