Hello Paul - if you google 'porsche vin decoder', there are several sites where this can be done.

What is the difference between a 5P versus 5R transmission?

Hello Paul,

A 5P transaxle is a 1985-1988 944 turbo transaxle with an open differential, oil cooler standard on 85/86, oil cooler optional on 87/88.

A 5R transaxle is the same year spread and for a turbo, but comes with an oil cooler and 40% limited slip differential.

Not sure where you are finding the M02 and M81 numbers, as they are not option numbers.

Mark

Could the M02 and M81 refer to chassis options?

Wow you got me??? Those do not show up in the complete Porsche option code list.

I hope somebody chimes in with an answer, I hate mysteries.
