Unhappy 951 power zapper????

I'd like to get this fixed..... My 951 has a touch of a 1971 toyota corolla after some high speed, high boost spurts. It kinda acts as if the fuel pump is not supplying near enough fuel..... Car stills runs but tough to maintain 50 mph or so, then coaxing it along, stabbing the gas pedal, a backfire or two and, voila, back to normal.

I was thinking the DME chip, fuel pump, or ignition, but am wondering if there is anything else I might need to be aware of. The car has only 70K miles, and the only enhancement is the Lindsey boost and Stage II chip.

I'll take any suggestions. Thanks.

Ken

You say stage two chip, do you mean you've only replaced the DME chip or did you replace the DME and the KLR chips?

How much boost are you running?

Ken,

My car did that a while back and it took me a while to figure out what was going on. It always happened right after starting the engine, or right after the car had warmed up. Sometimes it would also happen after driving for about 20 minutes. It turned out to be that my oxygen sensor wiring had all melted together and was shorting itself. The car would buck, backfire, and barely run, for about 10 seconds, and then suddenly it would run normal again. After replacing the sensor wires it never happened again. This is a long shot, but that was what happened to me.

I noticed you are in La Canada, do you know a guy who works over at the smog test only station next to the In & Out on Foothill. I took my 951 there and he failed it because of all of my mods. He told me he had a friend in La Canada with a 70k car and he knew what a stock engine was supposed to look like. Anyway, thought you might be that guy with the 70k car.

Thanks,
JAKE

Have you checked out your TPS? Does the problem occur everytime you drive it?

hey cauzomb
You put a 951 engine in your 944 with the 944 wiring harness and dme? I give you props for that one! So your running all the turbo parts and everything from the 951? Is the timing retarder you installed a MSD BTM? So you got it to work ok and be reliable? That kicks ass! how did you get more fuel in there? Thanks

John
