possible chain tensioner update

i have a 1982 911sc. i am thinking about doing a chain tensioner up date to her. I found an item called a hydrastop.
It is supposed to allow the tensioner to function normally until there is a failure and collapse of one of the tensioners. with hydra stop the collapse is averted and the hydrolic tensioner is automatically changed into a mechnical chain tensioner. anybody try this item. Sounds great and a lot less expensive the the other update. about 30.00 a pair.

Before I comment, you might try posting in the 911 BB, this BB is for cars later than your 1982 911SC. You will see more action in the "Porsche 911 Technical Forum". This 964/933/996 Forum is lightly traveled.

These collars have been around for a long long time. I took them out of my '72 to put in the updated oil feed type when I rebuilt my 2.4L thirteen years ago. There was another type, it is a manual adjuster type, no spring, no oil, just a mechanical screw to adjust the tension. These were used in racing. I guess they were saving weight and complexity. But those engines came apart regualry after the race. Most people favor the oil feed type. If your running cams that are real tight with the valve to piston clearance, don't go with the spring type, even with the hydra-stop collar. An engine is very costly to rebuild after the valves hit the pistons and the case explodes apart...

IMHO, and many others, this is not something one should scrimp on.
