993 Crank Reference Sensor install questions
Folks,
I began replacing my CPS and without thinking I snipped the end off of the old and new expecting I could just splice them together. This was because the later plug won’t work. I see the old had a shielded cable but the new doesn’t. The new DOES have an exposed braided portion. Can I still splice these braided parts together for now and match the black and white wires until I receive my replacement CPS with the adapter plug? I have seen a few folks made adapter cables and most just update the harness. Any down side to running it spliced until I get the right one? The new 996 CPS cables are awfully short. Thanks, Harold |
So the 993 cps is superceded by a 996 part that isn't plug and play?

There shouldn't be much downside to splicing although a new one should get to you relatively quickly ..
Not sure about the number being superseded to a 996 part number , yes the plug will need to be updated but that's about it . Just went through very similar situation with the head temp sensor getting it out only required bastardizing a perfectly good socket but oh getting it in was a whole nother set of issues ..Haha ! Do you mean the Hall sensor. Search the forum for where to purchase one.

Saw the post on Rennlist 964 forum.

There is no 993 version part available anymore. I’ve looked everywhere and I actually ordered an old part number from amazon and they sent me the superseded part which why I’m here now. |
I saw a thread on Rennlist where a guy with username -Nick used off the shelf parts to make a plug and play extender cable. Search for his posts around 2014. He provided very detailed instructions.
