Air conditioning problems

My A/C compressor is not kicking in. Is their a fuse or relay that I need to look at? I did not see one in the fuse box up front. Ths is a 1991 964.

Skoerper-

The fuse for the AC compressor is on the rear electronics panel on the drivers side of the engine compartment. I believe it is the bottom of three fuses. The fuse actually powers up a relay that provides high current to the AC compressor...

It is most likey the system is low on freon, and the system is protecting itself by not engaging the clutch. Does the clutch move at all when you first turn it on?

I've just got this problem too - clutch does not kick in at all.
The fuse is fine. Anyone know which of the 3 relays controls this?

The compressor clutch is controlled by the AC-Compressor Clutch Relay located in the same area as the fuses. Lt Rear corner in engine compartment. It is powered by Fuse #3. The relay has a lock out the does not allow the relay to engage unless the static pressure in the freon circuit is above 2.7 bar, or 2.7 atmospheres (40psig).

I can scan the diagram and post it if you’re interested.

Thanks , I'd like to see that diagram. So it may not be as simple as just replacing the relay? Is there a DIY method to check pressure in the system?
Thanks

Dear 964ers,

I have a 91 C-2 and recently the air-con packed up. I found a pool of oil in my garage which after some helps from other 964ers, I managed to traced the leak around the pressure switch. Apparently, the newe R134a has a tendency to destroy rubber seals, we need to run the air-con even in Winter to allow the oil inside the system circulating and lubricating the system. I obviously did not aware and I wonder how many of us knew about this.
I think Porsche should print this message in Bold in the manual.

Mark, I don't think it is just the relay. Don't condemn the relay because it is doing its job.

Most of the time the freon leaks very slowly through the hoses and past the o-rings and at some point the static pressure is below the threshold and the system will not come on line.

I work with helium and freon and some hydrogen now and then and also with rocket fuels. You would be amazed how small these molecules truly are and how they like to escape. Some years ago my organization went from teflon lined hoses to all metal hoses because of the pores in the hose would eventually release some rocket oxidizers. We ran these old hoses for weeks and then a small amount would show up through a wormhole.

I'll scan the electrical diagram tomorrow and post it.

I have been working on getting an image of the wiring schematic. I have a problem in that PP/BB limits the file size posted and the file is about 435 KB in size. I will send the file to anyone who sends me a PM.
