Porsche Crest 1995, 993 Door Locks

I am looking for help in getting into my car (Right Hand Drive) as I am locked out.

The trigger is not broken, it is moving (loose). It is like the inner mechanism operating the trigger is not connected. I cannot unlock the car using either the passenger or drivers side lock, same issue on both doors. While the key is turning normally, the door is locked shut with no way of getting in. Checked with a locksmith and his feeling is, it may require to be drilled out, but it is not my favoured choice. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Is there any other suggestions, any information or ideas is greatly appreciated!

Amazing that both door locks are not working / gone bad at the same time. Do you not have a battery key fob to open the car locks remotely? Is the car battery dead? Is the car new to you (only 2 posts and only in the last few days and your first question is how to break into the car)?

Depending on what may be broken, drilling out the lock itself may not solve the problem either.

Sounds like the door handle release is either broken or disconnected , had a similar occurrence on my Range Rover got out to place a envelope in the mailbox came back doors locked car running haha not funny !
You likely will need to contact a lockout specialist or locksmith that can access the interior either by
slim jim or removing a rear window even ..

Both door locks have not stopped working at the same time, passenger went first and now drivers door. No, the car is not new to me, its just the first major problem I have which I cannot sort myself. No remote key fob. I have spoken with Porsche and they cannot offer solution, other than look for a locksmith. I sought specialist advice, information received so far is likely drilling of the lock but wish to avoid this route. Just looking for some advice/help on a particular door lock issue and if somebody else with the same car had a similar issue.

Hey Bert, I was in touch with locksmiths, one recommended drilling another seems to think it may not require to be drilled out, just very frustrating.

Hi Ian c2, I sought specialist advice, while it wasn't AA or RAC, I will wait and see how it plays out...... hopefully not drilled out. As Kein_Ersatz mentioned, drilling may not solve the problem either.

At some point, breaking a side window may be the final solution. Start looking of a used one (taken from race conversion 993 / 964?) so you know which one to break.

Access through the lock, if it is anything but the lock/lock tab, will not give you much access through that hole to the lower workings of the door latch.

Curious, with your FOB are you able to hear the door locks actuate or dead silence?

Have you checked the fuses in the frunk? Or are you locked out the frunk too? You can access the frunk emergency release cable by removing the front left wheel and wheel well cover next to the front driver side head light you will see a small bicycle cable diameter cable up in there.

That is why I mentioned lockout specialist they have other means of gaining access
without using the door lock .
Obviously your door lock is disconnected from the latch mechanism , these guys know how to maneuver that rod inside the door to release the latch easy as that ..

From others who have had this problem this is apparently what is happening:

1. Turning the key will unlock the door (turn towards the front of the car) by having the key actuated rod move the internal locking plate. To have an idea of how this works, hold your hand in front of you with two fingers extended in a V-sign. The rod fits perpendicular between the two fingers, so you can turn the key and alternatively push on the inside of the index or middle finger - depending how you turn. This unlocks the door.

2.To actually open the door, you squeeze the handle. This will actuate another rod (like a plunger) that pushes perpendicular on the plate. If the plate is in the unlocked position this will enage the mechanism and the door opens. If the plate is in the locked position nothing happens.

The problem is that the plunger in (2) above is stuck in the channel in the extended position, so the plate was continuously pushed and can not engage the lock/unlock mechanism.

I don't think you can use lock out tools to move the plunger. Going through the trunk will not help. Solution is to break a window, maybe the small window on the driver door.

Take panels apart on both doors and removed handles, and locking / latching mechanism since both are not working.

Both plungers are probably stuck in the extended position. The plunger has a thicker end that hold the spring against the channel and also keeps the plunger centered in the channel so there's no side to side movement.

Clean everything with solvent, used compressed air to get everywhere and then lubricated. The channel housing the plunger is not perfectly parallel, the base narrows making it easier for the plunger to get stuck - almost no clearance. MAYBE enlarged it a bit with a dremel.
