rubber in torque tube

Hello-

Updating my 1989 C4 with a FD motorsports SSK. First real project.
inspecting the shift coupler there was a chunk of rubber that seemed to emanate from the torque tube. I pulled about 3 1 inch pieces out. additionally the rear shift linkage boot was kinda destroyed.

Is this a torque tube bushing of sorts?

thanks

Send pictures to Constantine at Black Sea R&D. Customer service is above par. We recently used his parts to rebuild a failed 928 tube that all the rubber had failed in. It's a job, but you can also send your tube to him to have repaired if needed.
