quickjack on 964
Considering getting a quickjack. Does anyone use them on their 964 that can offer guidance ?
Can yo tell me what model you use? Do I need the quickjack extenders to reach the 964 jack points? Looking at a NOS BL5000SLX |

I bought that exact model for use on my 964. Positioning of the jacks is a little bit fiddly the first couple times you use it*, but it becomes easier with experience.
* The front lifting points on the chassis are of a slightly narrower track than the rear lifting points. You have to position the Quikjack carefully so as not to damage the side skirts or oil lines. The Quikjack lifts also just barely fit within the wheelbase of the 964, so takes some practice to not hit the tires.

I bought the 5000TL, here it is with the 964 sitting on top.
![]() It’s perfect and provides the perfect amount of clearance underneath to get some real work done. The first time setting it up does take more thought but once you figure it out the second time is quick. One of those purchases I wish I had made a few years ago honestly. I also used it on my Spyder recently to flush the brakes and change the oil ![]() ![]()

Thank you both for sharing your experience- I was worried about oil lines and the side skirts.
I know the quickjack will make life easier. |

No issues with the oil lines at all, the blocks can be located under the jack points and there’s no pressure on the rockers or anything else.

Quick Jacks really scare the shiat out of me
How strong are they? Safety locks? Any reported injuries or casualties? |

I had similar reservations until I saw one in person. The 5000 Lb unit is very sturdy and uses large rectangular rubber blocks to transition between the car and jack.
The jack has two lock out heights and instructions state that the jack should be locked out before any work is performed on the car. You can literally disconnect the hydraulic hoses once its locked out, there’s no hydraulic force in play. No idea on your last question, but nothing is completely idiot proof

@Marine Blue I have a Quick Jack and it binds on the front tire when I lift it up. Do you have this problem? I cannot remove the front wheels when up in the air.

I’ve heard others have had issues with other Quick Jack models that are longer and have had to use them perpendicular instead of lengthwise.

I'll have to see which model I have but it definitely binds on the front wheels. Im a little afraid of jacking up sideways due to most of the weight being in the rear and the possibility of tipping the lift over.

Do you have the hydraulic connections facing forward or back when lifting?
I agree with you regarding the the perpendicular use of the jacks although my primary concern with that approach is that majority of the weight is at the back of the car which means one of the jacks is going to see the brunt of the weight.

I've got the lines facing forward so the lift goes up and back slightly. When working on my 964 Turbo I had to remove the rear wheels and put the rear end on jack stands prior to lifting on the Quickjack. Was an ordeal to say the least but that was the only way to do it.

Do you have 18” wheels on the Turbo? I can’t think of any other immediate differences between the two cars. Also did you confirm which version of the jack you have?

I have the 5000SLX, I believe. It takes a little bit of fiddling with the positioning of the jacks to get them to lift without binding on the wheels. I ran into that the first time I used them. I also ran into the problem with avoiding oil lines and side skirts with the rubber lifting blocks the first time. But a little fore-aft and side-to-side positioning before lifting, and no problems any more.

@Marine Blue I've got the 5000SLX. The Turbo had 17's and I could not lift it without removing the rear wheels first to avoid binding. But, maybe on my RS America I can make it work. I just need a reason to lift it!

IIRC the 5000 SLX is about 1-1.5” longer than the 5000 TL which will make it a tighter fit but we know it fits as confirmed by Noah930. I also have a friend with a 993S and he was also able to use the 5000 SLX without issue.

There is a hack on YouTube where a guy shows you how to put ball bearings on the underside of each side of the lift and it makes it incredibly easy to maneuver them under the car.
I finally got one two months ago and will never go back.

That ball bearing hack is money, almost makes me wonder why they don’t come that way! That will make sliding them around so much easier. Here’s a link: https://youtu.be/k0DQoEQrHmk

Agreed. I did it the day I got the lift.

I was searching on Amazon and was able to find the 5/8” rollers but I couldn’t find the 1” Roller in Stainless Steel unless I bought 10 of them. By chance do you have a source for the bearings in S/S?
