Motor Mounts: Wevo, RS vs. OEM

It would be great to get feedback from folks with real world experience using the following motor mounts:
  • Wevo Black Pillows
  • Porsche RS mounts
  • 964 C4 OEM mounts
I went from a worn set of OEM mounts in my C4 to the RS mounts. At the time, I did not notice a big change. In hindsight, I am guessing this is because the original mounts were worn out. A few years later now (and I'm older!), I am starting to think the RS mounts are just too much NVH in the cabin. A coupe hours in the mountains is fine, but when I do longer three-day fun run type drives with larger groups, it gets to be a bit much. My thought was to go back to OEM mounts, but then I started reading about the Wevo Black Pillows. Maybe they are a nice middle ground between comfort and performance? Are there other mounts to consider?

Other details - I'm running the Elephant Racing sport hardness bushings all around, Bilstein B6 w/ OEM springs and the Sleepers short shift kit. I'd like to move to the ROW M030 springs, but they do not appear to be available for the rear 1990 model year.

Thank you!

I had the black pillow Wevo’s on my Targa and I would describe them similar to how you describe the RS mounts. They are firm enough that they are similar to a worn out set of stock mounts as it relates to the vibration and noise. They do however minimize the engine movement which made a significant difference in the corners. The car settled much faster in the corners which made it more stable and predictable.

If reducing NVH is your ultimate goal the stock mounts are your best bet. I believe the 993 mounts may also be an option and cost a little less.

Thanks, that is helpful. The 993 mounts are indeed a little cheaper than the 964 ones. I just read through a Rennlist thread where someone used the 993 mounts in their 964 with no issues. Someone else also mentioned using 996 GT3 mounts, which look to be half the price of 993 or 964 mounts. Need to look in to that some more though.

I ended up going with the 993 C4 mounts in my 964 C4. Car feels great, much smoother than the RS mounts. The whole car isn't shaking at stoplights anymore. The 996 GT3 mounts that looked to be half the price were an old part number. The new part number are more expensive than the 993 motor mounts. I expect to be doing a longer, multi-day trip in a couple of weeks, so that will be the true test.*
