How long has your 993 tranny held out?
This weekend I was chatting with our local PCA chapter pres. and he told me all about his 993 tranny rebuild. It's a '97 C2 with 28k miles on her and about half of those are track miles. His synchros are gone now. He showed me the old parts and they looked fine to my untrained eye. At $125 per synchro, I didn't think that was so bad until he said the 2nd gear synchro was $1300!!!!! I couldn't believe it!
I have 30k miles on my '96 C2 and am still getting used to the shifting, grind it once in a while. I'm much more used to my G50 Carrera clutch. So I'm just curious how long everyone here has made it on their first 993 tranny and what a rebuild ran them.

The standard 993 brass 3-piece synchro for 2nd gear is around $200. The steel version costs around $1,300 because it is only available through the Porsche Motorsports division. For a track car, you pretty much have to step up to the steel version so that you don't ruin your 2nd gears with regularity. But for a street car, brass is fine.
