Porsche Crest Plug wires

Hi Guys, I'm curious as to spark plug wire sets, my car is now 27 years old (1996 Carrera coupe, purchased used in oct. 1997 with 4800 miles and it now has 123000 miles) and I was wondering when those plug wires should be swapped out for new set? Its hot in those engine compartments obviously and I was just curious, Please Advise, Thanks Marty

I had the plug wires on my 95 replaced about 15 Years ago. The engine was out for a clutch/gearbox change and I thought it was time. With the age and mileage on your car it's probably time to change.

Just make sure if you buy Beru they are the ones made in France and not China. The Chinese versions are known to have the crimped ends pull off.

My mechanic is a factory trained Porsche tech and he doesn’t replace wire sets, I have asked him about replacing them but typically only the ends go bad and when he runs across a bad one he tells me to get one from the dealer and he replaces it. Wires are silicon and rarely go bad.

Wires do fail, they do and I can show you many although I agree the ends are the biggest culprit. Also Your tech, is a gold star tech? Porsche would not be happy hearing this. This is vey old school way of doing things and not per their recommended procedure.

Years ago when indies did this you ended up back at the shop replacing another not long after.
