964 Factory Tool from the toolkit - need verification -
 

Hello, several years ago I've owned a 91 Cabriolet, and a 93RSA and when cleaning out the garage I found this tool, new in the bag.

Porsche part number 999.571.054.02
Stamped Klein W Germany

Searching various parts sites it comes back as a 89-94 wrench. Pelican lists it as a spark plug wrench, some others list it as a polygon wrench. Rennlist showed a post/picture of a 964 toolkit contents that has a similar style, but has a torx or possibly xzn bit end, this one is round. Also it being stamped made in West Germany suggests it was old stock?

Any ideas or help is appreciated!

The design of the 90 degree drive enables a high torque to be applied by hand to the sunroof drive tensioning screw.


This 90 degree straight drive is effectively a flat head screwdriver with a 90 degree bend enabling it to be used to apply a lot of torque in an area with limited access. It is primarily intended for use to undo the tensioning screw on the sunroof drive mechanism in order to manually close the electric sunroof in case the electric motor or cable drive mechanism fails. The sunroof drive mechanism is located above the rear windshield, behind the sunroof and is accessed by undoing a zipper in the roof lining. Once the tensioning screw has been undone with this tool, the crank handle with its 6mm hexagonal drive shaft (item 7 above) can be inserted into the sunroof drive mechanism to manually wind the roof closed. For further information, see page 61 of the owners manual. The manufacturers name “KLEIN GERMANY” is stamped into this tool.

Thank you!! I was positive it wasn't a sparkplug tool, obviously the Cabriolet wouldn't use/have it but the RSA did have a sunroof.

No, I;m sorry that is not correct. It is a spark plug wrench attachment. The kit has the angled piece you show, with a handle extender and also a longer crank piece. I have a 91 C2 with original kit. No. Two different tools. The one by your spark plug wrench is in fact for the spark plug but it has a torx type end. The one he is referring to has a flat screwdriver type end and is for the center of his sunroof as described above.

Thanks to all replies, I'm going to assume this was for/from the RSA, any consensus on it being in the Cabriolet toolkit? The RSA was a 7k car with everything intact, the Cabriolet was less documented and at the time I wasn't a concourse type owner!

Thanks for clarifying. The reason I thought this is that the spark plug tool with the torx like end isn’t machined in the part. It seems like a cap that could have popped off, and he had a 91.

I doubt it is from an RSA. In 92 they switched from snaps to tie string bag. I agree the first tool is sunroof not supplied with the later cars and the torques head is used to hold the alternator as well when tightening the nut. The kits very from year to year and as the years went by less tools were included. They also had a spark plug tool for 2 different sized plugs depending on model and some had a spring between the plastic head and socket.
