964/993 Billet Timing Chain Covers Re-Engineered

Guys, about two years ago I developed CNC machined timing chain covers for the 3.6L engine family (964/993 including turbo 3.6 964 and 993 turbo) that seal in a completely different way than anything else in the market.

The idea behind my development was to mitigate the risks of leaks when using factory rubber gasket due to the pitting on the timing chain boxes - OE rubber gasket won't seal, even with new covers or billet CNC covers made to use this gasket.

Therefore I removed the biggest problem from the equation - the OE rubber gasket.
My covers don't use any gasket at all, just a surface to surface sealant.

The initial thread is located on rennlist here if you want to go through the whole discussions why it matters :-)

Here's to compere weight:

To keep the story short, I'm finishing the last batch and need to decide how many of the covers will be anodised in black and how many in silver.

PRICING for THIS batch:
$459 for a set with standard mounting hardware (studs OR bolts) anodized in black or silver.
Extra Hardware (studs AND bolts): $20
Sealant: $5
SHIPMENT: US $20 / UK $20 / EU $20 / Others - ask

In terms of reliability, I've never had a complaint about them and there is a few dozens of them already running on engines worldwide. Only one guy wanted to change the finish from anodised black to raw CNC billet (obviously I helped with that).

If you're interested in these please PM me.
If you want more details, please ask in the thread and I will help with that.

PS. I even made one set powder coated in Black to match the details of the engine.

Happy 2025! :-)

Thanks William. William is the lucky one to have the super light set made out of some spaceship plastic and titanium bolts :-)

For the time being it seems this whole batch will end up in black anodised finish.
So if anyone is on the fence which color to pick, now is the moment to let me know.

Cheers 8)

Very Nice parts. MUCH better than Stock. Help support part of our Community in Poland. If you have the mag ones that fall apart and leak this is a great upgrade. William Marshall

Nothing against his work but the mag ones are just fine if you know what you're doing. Aluminum and the almag 35 expand at different rates and IMO is a mistake but only time will tell.

Many of the replacement parts from Porsche like the chain guide support are made in Al now rather than Mg. If you think Mg holds up fine look at the inside of a Mg valve cover. Stuff just keeps flaking off into the engine. I don't make any money supporting the products mentioned above. I personally know the seller and spent time with him in Poland about 3 months ago. Konrad is very passionate about developing better products for air cooled 911's. My statement is NOT targeted at anyone nor targeted at post above. I am only sharing my opinion. I think they're very good and Happy there not Mg. Personally. William Marshall

I manufactured magnesium castings for the US defense industry for 30 years, three generations and massive amounts of disinformation about mag and knowledge overlooked here. I spent the past 12+ years rebuilding 964/993's exclusively nearly daily.

What chain guide support are you talking about? The chain rails are made from a resin what supports them are steel roll pins. I don't know of anything other than the early mag valve covers that Porsche changed to aluminum using the same tooling. They failed because of people not taking proper care and usually wear at the spark plug holes removing the paint and exposing the material causing premature failure. Mag needs to be protected from the elements especially road salt or brackish water. Same goes fro the mag fans which chip along the edges or have people putting crow bars into the openings to tighten or losen the belt. if properly cared for mag parts will last as long as aluminum I an assure you of that. Making a fan out of aluminum is a huge mistake as well.

First off the chain covers and housings unlike the fans and early valve covers are made of an aluminum based alloy not magnesium based. It uses a very high at least 35% magnesium content similar to Almag35 an alloy my grandfather pioneered in the 30's. The flaking is from improper maintenance intervals and moisture/dirt grinding away at the surface. The design is actually quite nice but 90% of the mechanics don't take the time to clean the surfaces properly and most over tighten the nuts thinking it helps but only makes it worse. A .030" amount of seal should be seen but most people crank it down which is a huge mistake. Most owners don't warm their cars up properly and change their oil as required also adding to the issues as moisture builds up internally. These will not warp but might crack if over stressed.

I have engines with 144k track miles using original chain boxes and covers and these are not a problem if you know what you are doing. I am also using the original valve covers which to this day still don't weep. My 60k mile engine I resealed had TC covers and housings that looked like new after 30 years.

They look nice and are cheaper than OE so that is the only plus assuming you need to replace them.. But if you think this is a 30+ year miracle fix you would be wrong and it took most of these that were properly maintained 30 years of neglect to go bad and could last a lot longer if properly cared for.

Become a sponsor and I won't say a thing but far too many sold under the pretense it was a short run. To me this is just another solution looking for a problem.
