Lost all gears

Thought I'd add this to the 964 data base here at Pelican. Sorry if this has been posted before, havent had time to search.

Today went for my first club drive with the C4.

After about 2hrs driving both city and back roads, was stopped by a car ahead as we were entering a highway from an on-ramp. The car in front finally moved off and when I went to put my car in first.......nothing.....nadda.....zip

No gears, just a sloppy shifter floating around.

Pushed the car to the side of the off ramp, organised a truck and got it down to my mecahnic who generously offered to open his shop on Sunday for me.

Aftre removing the tunnel cover, a bushing in the shifter rod under the car had given its life away.

90 minutes later with new bushings, I was on my way again.

Mechanic said he usually replaces the who shifter rod but being a Sunday and not having one around, he said the old one was fine. Maybe I should consider swapping this rod over.

Anyhow it was nice to have a breakdown that didint hurt the pocket too much!

Cheers
Mark

I had the ball cup bushing on my Carrera fail a few months ago and had similar symptoms. But mine would still go into gear, albeit very deliberatley. Luckily, Marcesq had a spare bushing laying around and I did the job for $0 and about 1.5 hrs. Other bushings in there looked fine, so no need to replace.

Thanks Richard for adding the correct terminology 'ball cup bushing'.

Wish I had been able to get my car into gear. There was nothing!

Cheers
Mark
