you may want to considering buying one from a Porsche dealer and getting the certified used-car warranty . It used to be 1 year-unlimited mileage. Now it is two years and xx,000 miles. (sorry, can't remember off -hand.)
If i was looking for a 996 I would definitely consider this 'pay a bit now, not a lot later" option. Considering the number of engine problems and leak problems that have called for expensive repairs; and sometimes a replacement engine!!

go here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/index.php?s= and click on the 996 and GT3 board. do some reading and/or a search there.

Not sure where you are located, but there are a LOT of them for sale here in southern California.
