Too Much Power Steering Fluid

While trying to track down a problem, I noticed yesterday that my car has too much power steering fluid (i.e. hydraulic fluid, hydraulic oil - same thing right?). The car is a 2001 996 C2.

Can anyone help me answer the following questions?

1. How would this happen - I'm guesing someone simply overfilled?

B. What are the problems this could cause?

III. How do I remove some of it so it's at normal levels?

Thanks for any help. The car is still under warranty, and if it comes to it I can take it in, but I'd really like to just fix this myself if possible. It *seems* like it should be easy enough, but then many things seem easy until you actually try to do them.

ps fluid

Dear Random, Don't really know why it is overfilled. To remove some go to your kitchen and borrow your wife's turkey baster. If you tell her you did it you will now own a new tool. Regards, Roy

I'd be dead if I did that.

Believe it or not we had a "baster situation" last Thanksgiving which led to a trip to Williams Sonoma to buy a baster that would actually work all the time.

I think I'm just going to buy a siphon, looks like they're only $20 and I can make that back in a weekend stealing gas from my neighbors.

btw...if anyone is wanting to play detective and tell me what this sound is I'd appreciate it. Please excuse the poor recording, it's the best I could come up with. No doubt a trip to the dealer is in my future, but until that nasty looking hurricane decides what it's going to do, I think I'll leave my car in a garage rather than out in the open on the lot.

This is my car being started and backed out of the garage - no brakes invovled until after the sound (at about 0:15) occurs.

The Sound...
