Something banging / clacking near front left wheel area
Help!!
I have a sort of banging / clacking sound coming from around the front right wheel of the car (red oval area on picture) (from standing in front of it) , its impossible to track it down precisely from within the car except to a general area the car is has been into the shop and they have completely checked out the suspension and can't find any problem despite spending about three hours on it (they didn't charge me either), typically I went over a few largish speed bumps the previous day and it shut up only to start again once I had collected it from the shop. It appears to happen mainly when its a short sharp shock ie you go over a surface that has drops of just a few millimeters, the fast undulating roads don't cause it to make a sound at all, it drives perfectly and big bumps don't usually make a sound, its as though something has come loose It happens at walking pace to any speed on the wrong kind of road I'm basically at a complete loss, the only thing I can think is that its something to do with the thing behind the wheel arch cover to the rear of the wheel that has a few pipes leading to it from the front bonnet area theres a canister type thing, and I wondered if something in this could be clacking / banging. (Green Oval Area on Picture Just wondered if you had come across this before as it really is doing my head in. Yours in need of help. Regards and thanks in advance Goldyhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1070489964.jpg |
The air conditioning dryer (canister) is located in that area. It is unlikely that it is the culprit. The A/C lines run along the driver side rocker, up thru the dryer and over the front wheel - all hidden under the plastic fender liners. It seems to me that the noise would most likely come from the strut mount or strut itself.
