993 A/C woes

Hello everyone,
I have a ventilation problem that I hope to fix. This is aside (I
hope) from the loose change that I think may be down there. When I turn on the A/C, it works fine for about 10 seconds and then shuts down all the vents. The A/C is still cranking, but the vents have all closed and no air spews forth. The other symptom is when I hit the button to recirculate the air, the same thing happens. All other functions seem to work fine. Hot air will blow, outside air can make its way in. Is there a sensor that I need
to replace? My mechanic (John Walker in Seattle) says the air systems all report faults which I've confirmed with others. Has anyone else had this type of behavior in the 964/993/996 cars? Ack! What to replace?

Help! Believe it or not, it was 95F in Seattle today!!!

With all 993 you can cycle and test the heater/ac system with the Bosch tester. There is no other real way of diagnosing.
Just run the test proceedure with the Bosch hammer and the relevant fault should show up.

Uhhh...it's been fixed.

Seeing this reminded me that I had not replied or followed up. The fix ended up being much easier than trying to score a Bosch "Hammer" to diagnose the trouble. I had remembered fishing about under the bonnet to replace the air filters. So, I dove back in and started analysing the vacuum connectors. Sure enough, I found one that had been pulled off. Once I plugged it in, the A/C wooshed to life and all was right with the summer world! Sometimes, it's the easiest fixes that elude us the longest.

I still bought all the manuals, and it actually was a reference buried in there to check the vacuum hoses. Sheesh.
