993 - What price originality

I am soon to become the proud owner of a 993 2S. It needs shocks and the mechanic has stripped out the old ones and told me that he strongly recommends that to maintain the value of the car, replacement should be the same as the original shocks that came out.

1. they’re expensive and 2. the front ones are not available and have to be ordered from Germany – delay of 2 weeks.

What do you guys think? Would it bother you to find a completely original example of the 993 with some other shocks?

I wouldn't sweat it. What are your other choices? Personally I'd do Bilstein HDs and not worry about it. The stock Monroes are short-lived and expensive. Not a good combination. You can always put the stock shocks on later if anybody cares.

IMO, Originality doesn't mean crap on a 7 year old car, but what ever is replaced should be the same or better quality than OE. I say upgrade and go w/ Bilstein (sports, again imo).

The original shocks were not very good and did not have a very long useful life. I would go with the Bilstein HD's as well.

Tnx for the responses
The shocks that came out were different front and back. Are you guys suggesting Bilsteins all round?

Yes. At shox.com, they sell a full set of four for like $1,059 USD. Don't know if they'll ship to your part of the world.

You can get them from Carnewal.com in Belgium. They ship things very quickly and accurately.
