Why can't I fit Fuchs on a 964?
What is the offset issue? can I use spacers or change the 964 hubs back to 911 ones to make the Fuchs fit? I'm backdating a 964 to a 73 Carrera RS look and my only obstacle is fitting the proper wheels.

it is an offset issue. (i'm not sure about caliper clearance)
the 964 requires a wheel with a high offset number, the Fuchs have a low offset number. ...basically, spacers would just make the situation worse. there was an article in Excellence magazine where a fellow did a 964 to RS backdate. He had custom Fuchs made. max |
if you go down the page to a post by Jack Olsen, you'll see a link to the 6 pages of the Excellence article.

I think Fikse makes a Fuchs replica in 17" size. Not sure about the offset for a 964, but they are beautiful wheels if not a bit expensive.

Actually, HRE makes a 17 inch Fuchs replica. You can also get them from Lindsey Racing.

Are these replicas forged like the Fuchs or cast to look like them but are not as strong?
|
It is possible to find a set of rough 16x6 Fuchs, cut out the centers and have 17" rim halves installed. Custom offsets are easy. I think that is what Jack used on his BB.

The HRE's are forged 3 peice wheels, I thought about adding them to my car until I got bitten by the Kinesis Super Cups, now I think I'll go that route when the time comes, plus they'll show off the calipers better, but the HRE's do look very nice in person.

See this link. There is a picture midway through.
