paint thickness

I was having a discussion about matching paint when repairing damage to a Porsche, and the person (my brother) said that the paint on a Porsche is quite thin. He said its applied electrostatically (ie the metal is "charged" during paint application)
so the layer is thin. Does anyone know what the standard thickness is?

4-5 mil including the clear coat?

I think all OE paint is being applied that way nowadays, or will be in the near future. I am not sure if it is correct to say the paint is automatically "thin" howver.
