Good to get it all done now. Even if you invest $2000 in the car you are ahead from the looks of those great pictures. And after that the next maint is just a couple oil changes during the next 15,000 miles.

The distributor vent is a Porsche fix (non-recall but always done by dealers) on all early 964's. Make sure you ask for it (part cost about $10 & 1/2 hour labor) and if it has not been done you should also have them replace the distributor belt at the same time. The total cost here may be $250 but if this was never done you have a 100% chance the belt will fail soon (typical 30 to 60,000 miles) and if you don't catch is it could distroy the engine. This is one of those little things that is hard to detect (my wife would never notice the rough running & pinging the belt failure causes) till it is to late. But once this is fixed there is no reliability issue in the distributor. The fix was made to all '92 and later cars. I had mine fail at 36.000 miles just a few months after I bought the car. It has been fine ever since.

One other thought is to have the dealer check and lubricate the Cab top. I know you said it worked well- but here again this is 14 year old mechanics. And again it cost me $800 to have it repaired cause I did not know it was in need of service.

These are good cars - but as they get old and have not been driven and used as intended & serviced appropriately they can get very expensive.

Jack, I agree 100%. I would rather pay now before something gets screwed up and then it cost twice as much.

The sunshine down here is a bit much with a convertible and black leather. LOL

Oh that Dubba is a scary man - indeed.. In this case I agree with him on every single point. First take care of the two problems he points out. Then, BEFORE you let your wife drive around much - check whether the secondary distributer drive belt has been changed and whether the vent kit has been installed. If this is like GREEK to you, then park the car until the issue is resolved.

I have a 90 with all factory wide body parts and new ppg global guards red paint, 993 black top with black interior. it was a theft recovery so it has a california salvage title. the car is complete without the engine for $9500. a friend has 2 3.6 engines with fresh rebuilds that have not been installed, $6k each so you can do the math. the 90's do have the leakage problems as i have had a 90, a 91 and a 92. great cars that got a bad wrap by some racers who didn't like the added weight. i have had a few turbo's, and the stock 3.6 is a great daily runner without the lag of a turbo. i just got a boxster and am putting a 3.4 water cooled into it so will sell the cab i mentioned, but in time people will realize these are great cars, as the evolution of the 993's are getting the credit from the 964's. enjoy
