993 Brake Bleed Question
I need to change pads and bleed brakes on a friend's 993.
Is this any different than my SC? I have read about something called a Bosch Hammer. Do I need to use this? Thanx, Pete

No different, except each caliper has two bleed screws. These pages:
http://p-car.com/diy/brakepads/ and http://p-car.com/diy/flush.html have instructions. As I recall, the Hammer is only needed for excercising the ABS if the system has gone dry. Check over on Rennlist. Chris.

It's helpful to have a Motive power bleeder so you don't run the risk of getting any air in the ABS pump. If you do that you'll need the Hammer to clear it. Also, the power bleeder prevents you from damaging any seals from pumping the brake pedal beyond it's normal travel.
Some of the the early 993's have an overflow tube on the brake fluid resevoir to vent overflow - you'll need to clamp that off... Running a search on Rennlist will yield lots of hits, however I'd suggest not trying to ask the question unless you want a bunch of those stuck up, self absorbed whiners to tell you to use the search function or become a member... Other than that, the P-Car site is very helpful. Use a rubber mallot to tap each caliper when you bleed to dislodge any air bubbles. Lastly, flush the old fluid and replace it with some nice fresh ATE Super Blue ![]()
