Calling all 993 GURU's!!!
Hi Gang,
I have a mate who's in the market for a 911 (he was looking at 930's but has decided on a "more civilised" 993 as a daily driver). What can you 993 boffins tell me about the different 993 models? All I know is that the 1994-1995 models are the non-Varioram models and the 1996-1997 are the Variorams, correct? Which is a better car? He will probably put a CHIP in it, so which model is CHIP friendly? Any tips you can give me which I can pass onto him for when he goes looking at some this coming weekend? BTW, he doesn't have the budget for an "S" model. Thanks in advance. |
In the US there is a distinct difference between OBD1 '95s and OBD2 '96 and OBD2 '97-98.
But for ROW they are all OBD1 AFAIK at least my '97 euro vram is. SO the main difference (not counting 993RS or 993Cup) '94 -95 are non vram and '96 - 98 are vram. All S are wide body all non S are narrow(except 993RS & Cup). Vram is nice but certainly not worth passig up a nice non v car for. There are also AWD versions of w/b and n/b to consider. Again a personal choice. The 993AWD is more performance oriented than the 964 version. All of the ROW and OBD1 versions should be easily chipped, again for US versions '96 DME needs to be replaced w/ a '97 - 98 which can't be chipped but can be flashed. |
