Excessive brake rotor rust
 

Hello everyone,

I had all my rotors replaced about 2 months ago because of a noise/squeak problem. The car has gone back to the shop twice, the second time they changed all the pads to organic pads. It helped but the noise shows up once in a while.

Every time I wash the car I make sure to hose down the rotors real well, but have noticed an excessive amount of rust.
Is there a way to keep these rotors from rusting, any chemical or liquid that could be sprayed. Could the rust be causing some of the noise as it hits the brake pad?? All the holes (drilled rotors) are rusted.

Rotors will rust in about 30 seconds after they get wet. OK, maybe not that fast, but rust will start forming within a couple of minutes. The best thing to do after hosing them out is go for a drive to dry them out. Use the brakes enough to get them good and hot. This will dry them out and clean off any rust that accumulated in the few minutes between drying off your car and the drive.

I've always taken the time to paint them if they can be seen. I use a high temp paint and allow a day or two to cure.....

Eli, I thought he was talking about the surface of the rotors, not the hats. I've painted my hats as well. It looks very nice.

Well if he's using regular disc with the hats attached I'm sure he was addressing the outer and inner areas......

dont spray the rotor with water einstein. Its bare metal. You should avoid getting the rotor excessively wet. If you do.....drive it to heat & dry it.
Go drive up to Del Mar... the back way... and the hill on the way back, will fix your problems. Sounds like you need to wear in the pads a little. Go drive my friend.......

What did you do with your old rotors? :) What year and how many miles if you still have them?
