Stereo upgrade/repair in 964

Anyone has hooked up an external amp inside a 964? Where is the best place for locating one about 12 inch long by 10 inch wide by 2 inch thick.

I'm thinking that one may use the passenger footwell or right side of footwell. Or In the front luggage area inside the spare tire?

The issues with each choice:
1) mounting in passenger area needs a thick power wire from the battery (where does one route this through the bulkhead?)

2) mount in trunk needs RCA cables from preamp in passenger area to trunk (again where does one route this or the power wire)

My guess is there seems to be a rubber grommet/wire bundle going into the trunk behind the pedal cluster via the driver foot well area. Anyone can confirm how the pros or factory would route the wires?

Must be on the wrong board with my stereo questions! bet most 911 guys delete their stereo and only listen to the roar of the engine.

The PO put mine in the luggage well up front...seems to work just fine. PM me for the details.
All the best.

I put mine under the passenger seat, but I think it was smaller. I used the Zapco 200W 2-channel. They made a small space for the alarm unit forward of where it normally mounts and then the amp fit in fine.

I had mine installed in the trunk. It sits on top of the spare tire, resting on a thin piece of sturdy plastic and velcro'd to the center of the spare tire. After I re-instert the carpet, you can't even tell it is there.

I had my stereo installed by a professional and I recommend it highly. They have all the cool tools and misc. parts to make the install very clean.

Thanks all for the replies. I think I will try to install it in the trunk under the carpet inside the spare tire and run the two RCA jack plugs through the grommet in the foot well area.

Well, after looking for the oem grommet, I've decided that putting the amp in the passenger area under the seat is a better location.

Now, can anyone tell me about the taped off plug under the stock RSA sport seats? Would the red wire if positive 12V when ignition is on be a good patch for the power source lead of the amp. Is this plug used for power seats in regular C2/4 and not used for the option deleted RS America?

tshih, what type of amp are you going to use? I'm looking at several and everything seems to be to big to mount beneath the passenger seat.
Thanks,

I bought a Profile AP400 65wattX2 channel amp from crutchfields. It seems to fit under my car's passenger seat. Also I don't need to drill into the bodywork to secure it since there is a metal plate there to tape it (velcro it?) into position. The only problem is what are known as ground loop noise isolation if I don't find the proper ground and power connections.
