Getting my 96 TT back

Well I'm getting really excited as I will be getting my 96 TT back next week after having it in the shop for 2 MOS. I had the motor rebuilt, crank micro polished & balanced, rods balanced & machined to accept ARP rod bolts, pistons balanced & notched as I put in Euro rs cams also put in all new improved valve guides & new intake & exhaust valves my mechanic has his own cyl sealing rings made and enlarges the ring grove in the heads for them he also does other little tricks internally. I also have K24 zero clearenced ceramic coated turbos and of course modified ECU. I also put in a new clutch pressure plate etc. Installed short shift kit & Bilstein PSS9 suspension and am having it corner balanced & aligned. My mechanic John Holleran assures me the car will be fast and reliable and he warranties his work for 1 YR or 12500 miles he'll put 200 miles on it before he gives it to me. I should have gotten the car this week but John does his own alignment and the shop he rents for the alignment was closed all this week as the owner was on vacation so John will take it and align itt on Monday the 18th. I'll let you all know how it runs and drives when I get it back. Doug

Hey Doug,

I'd say you are in for one heck of a treat when you get your TT back! Those upgrades sound great.

Just talked to my mechanic today and I get to pick up my car thursday am. I'll give you all my impressions of how my hard earned $20K spent on the rebuild works out. Doug

I picked up my car yesterday and although I haven't been able to fully romp on it yet it definitly feels like it has more low down torque. It feels like you could pop the clutch at an idle and it wouldn't stall. The suspension feels great rides nice and tracks straight and I no longer feel like I have to keep both hands on the wheel at all times, with the old set up and alignment it felt darty and you needed to keep both hands on the wheel at all times, its much more relaxing and enjoyable to drive now. Once break in is done I'll get my drum of race fuel so I can mix it for a 94 octane level and let you all know how it feels, so far it feels great. Doug

what shop is this, where you had the work done?

I really like the 96 Twin Turbo, especially in Arena Red.

Enjoy the hell out of it!

It's Hollerans Performance in Pinole CA about 25 miles from SF in the Bay Area. Doug

Sounds like a beast
what kind of boost can you safely run ( HP, torque)
Just wondering why the rebuild, did it nuke?

If you can post some pics

Hi Herman yes it did nuke, the previous owner got it hot and the valves and guides went. The PO's mechanic missed the bad valves and replaced the turbos and gave the car a clean bill of health and totally missed the bad valves, of course none of this was known by me and I took the mechanics word that the car was running great so I decided to set the car up just how I wanted it I've now got about 300 miles on it since the rebuild and still have a couple of hundred miles of breakin before I can romp on it, but it's running really running well at this point. I don't have a digital camera to post any pics with but I will do when I get a chance. Doug
