964 Intermittant Starting Problem
Hi Guys,
Wondering if you've been in a similar situation and what the fix could be. The '90 964 C4 would start fine at times and not start at all at other times. It doesn't matter if it's hot nor cold. I don't think it's the DME relay as it controls the fuel pump only, right? When it doesn't start, I've checked and confirmed that there's no spark to both distributors. The resistance values of the speed/reference sensor checks out fine. I've noticed that in the left footwell, where there's the diagnostic plug, when I reach in and try wriggle the wires behind it, it helps sometimes. Any other ideas? Thanks! Sprint. |
I would at least try a new DME relay. You would then eliminate it for sure. If the original one is OK then you would have a spare that you should be carrying anyway.

Mine does this too. I go thru this sequence. Turn the key on so the dash lights up, press the gas pedal to the floor and leave it pressed there for about 15 seconds then turn the key off and release the gas pedal. I then start the car. Works every time so far. I think it has something to do with the Wide open throttle switch or idle switch getting confused.
Hope this helps Bill 90C2 |
