If you get one that is stuck AND you've totally mutilated it trying everything else (or you want to avoid that bit of fun) then try this:

Take a hammer and steel chisel (sharp enough to cut into the filter rim) and tap the filter rim in the off direction at a slight angle. You just need to get it rotated a 1/2 inch or so and then a regular filter wrench will get it off.

Then take the hammer to the guy who used a wrench to tighten it. :o

long, strong screw driver and a BFH, pound thru oil filter, make big mess, lots of leverage with long screw driver, remove oil filter, waste 5 rags cleaning up oil and replace with new filter, don't over tighten

The chisel and/or screw driver ideas are good ones, except that there is no room for either on the engine oil filter on a 993. The filter is in a hole, and you can only access if from the top. There is no way the handle of a wrench can stick out sideways from the filter. Same for a screwdriver. You might be able to get a chisel on the top corner, but I suspect it would just dent or open the filter, making a big mess, and it wouldn’t cause the filter to turn. If you could get the chisel on the base of the filter, it might work, but there is no way to get to the base. Take a look at the filter and you’ll see what I mean:

Here it is by itself:

and here it is with a filter wrench on it:
