Power steering pulley tool
I am in the process of replacing the power steering belt and seals on my 1992 Porsche 964. Does anyone know where I can purchase rent or borrow a cam pulley holder tool? I believe it is part #9236
Thanks |

I forgot where I read this from, but someone used the exhaust mount bracket (the one with the 2 bolts sticking out) as a holder and it fit perfectly.
Don't take my words for it. I used the cam holder. --- anthony |

I just wedged a flat screw driver in between the lower pulley spoke and one of the three 10mm hex head bolt behind the pulley and used a 17mm or 19mm socket on the pulley center bolt.
Some people say they just put the car in gear and loosen the center bolt. It might work but I have not tried it. You also don't have to pull out the whole power steering belt housing to replace the o-ring and seal. Just pull it out enough to clear the cam shaft pulley journal and pull the old o-ring out and put new one in. The oil seal can be popped out with a narrow flat screw driver and new one driven in with a socket. ![]()

Thanks for the tips bazaar1.
Dear Axl911 Would you be interested in renting your camshaft holder? I cannot find where to purchase, rent or borrow a camshaft holder. I would truely appreciate it and return it after my repair. Contact ohiocharger@yahoo.com Thanks |

You can also use a Impact gun with a long extension with a wobble socket at the end, fast and clean.,cheers,Antonio.

bazaar,
The camshaft holder would require you to remove your engine so that you can remove the timing chain case cover. ---- anthony |

Funny, Anthony, I am done with this project.
Tall02 is the one that needs it. Yes, you are right Anthony, I've only seen this tool used on an engine that has been pulled out of the car. If your's is already out, just disregard. Here are some pics I've found in the engine rebuilding forum. ![]()
