Dead Odometer/Tripmeter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, maybe you've heard this one before. I was cruising around a couple of weeks ago and my odo/trip meter stopped working. So I had the gear replaced, put the unit back in and nothing, speedo still worked but odo/trip didn't. Took the unit back to my shop and he replaced the other gear in there as apparently it can get hard and not make good contact. I called him Friday to find out how much green I needed in my pocket and he told me that that little motor wasn't getting a signal from the circuit board and as usual after a trip to him, a large expense. He says I need a new speedometer,,,ouch. So I'm going to watch eBay for used speedo's. There is a 993 tipronic speedo up there, but I am fairly sure that the tip uses a different circuit board then the manual tranny speed. There is an extra ring of pins on the back on the tip speedo. I need to email North Hollywood and Palo Alto Speedo Repair to see if they can fix this problem and for how much. But just out of curiosity, has anyone else had this problem? |

Sorry to hear it was the motor and not the little gear. I would try calling LA Parts Dismantlers to see if they have a speedo they could tear down for parts.
It's worth a shot. Good luck,

I was going to contact them and 20th Street for a used one, but I found on in the Used 911 forum. I'm not sure how eager they would be to tear down a speedo for parts.
