1990 C2 fuel guage problem

The car belongs to a friend of a friend so I have not even seen the car. The owner got my number and gave me a call. Unfortunately all my literature stops with the 1989 carrera's. I am hoping someone can help with the following problems:

1. The gas gauge reads 3/4 full always. It does not move at all.
2. Sometimes when he gets fuel, the fuel shoots out of the filler hole.

From my brief phone conversation while at the grocery store, that is what I gather he is having trouble with.

Thanks in advance!

Has he taken the sending unit out to see if the float arm moves freely?

His son brought the car over last night. I unplugged the fuel sending unit and the gas gauge went down to empty. So I figure that it is the sending unit itself. I sent him to the link to pelicans sales site. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

sounds like it will. you can also ground the wire and the guage should go to full.
