964 rear wiper
I am considering adding a rear wiper to my 1992 C2. Anyone have any pics of their car with rear wiper and closeups of the details so I can estimate the work invloved? thanks

I think you need to replace the rear window. THe wiper mounts in a hole in the window.

Anyone know where the wiring harness and connector are for the rear wiper?

Why on earth do you want the rear wiper? It ruins the lines of the car.
Most people I know wants to remove it.

I drive mine year round and it should help on rainy days.
You know someone who would want to trade rear windshields and wiper?

I wouldn't mind having a rear wiper, myself. Nice to be able to see out the back when it is raining (yes, I actually drive it in the rain - and in snow, too.) The problem, as you point out, is getting a new rear window with the hole in the right place. Were I to actually go this route, I'd try for a European-spec rear window, one without the HICAS light. Then I'd get the little 'spoiler' from a 993 which carries the HICAS light in a more elegant setting (the C2 I didn't buy had such a mod). Not a clue what it'd cost to get such a rear window, nor what it'd cost to have it properly glued into place. |

Stevepaa,
I have a rear wiper on my 1990 C4 and it goes largely unused. The wiper itself only has an intermittant switch and it'll wipe as long as you hold the button or 2x for a quick press & release. My car is also a daily driver and I've driven it in pretty hard rain (gasp) in-town and highway - it's not useful enough for me to recommend all the hassle of the installation.

Thanks, I think I'll put that on the way back burner. I'll drive this winter and see if there is any real need. I know the rain in NC can be fierce. thanks

I have a 965 turbo and it has a rear screen wiper as you describe, The wiring harness is behind the rear shelf, the shelf which is attached to the section behind the seats as a whole is held in by 4 screws that are clearly visible. Once the screws are out you then give the unit a good tug forwards (using the seatbelt retainer covers) (you will note that unless you remove theseatbelts that you will not be able to take the whole lot out of the car)doesn't matter though, the window motor is attached to the body of the car easily and your existing rear shelf can be trimmed to accomadate the wiper rod and a decorative cover can be purchased to make the perfect look. You will need to have a new rear windscreen as the wiper goes through the glass. Contrary to a previous reply the rear wiper is a real bonus not only for reversing but also for high speed driving on the motorway as the teardrop mirrors do not allow you to see very far behind the car being so low to the ground. Hope this helps you, Regards Chris

Thanks Chris.
The wiring harness is different for cars with factory rear wiper than for non. The wires for the wiper are not in the harness for non factory installations. I can add them though.
