Read posts about 50K routine belt replacement. My 94 has had the vent kit since new and has 51K on the clock. Not inclined to replace the belt as a result.
FYI, if you simply unplug each coil relay with the engine running you can easily hear that distributor #2 is working. I do this about once a month for peace of mind. OK, heres my question. . .at what mileage did your belt break? Did you have the vent kit? For how long? If yours hasn't broken yet. . .what is your current mileage? It'll be interesting to see if anyone is seeing 80K+ lifespan. ------------------ Mike 94 C2 cab [This message has been edited by Mike Feinstein (edited 08-19-2001).] |

Mike,
I had the belt replaced on my 92 C2 at 50K miles. The vent kit was installed at 33K miles in 1999, so the car ran for some time wihout the vent kit. My mechanic said my belt was fine and would have lasted at least another 50K miles, but I certainly feel better knowing that I have a new belt. I'm staring at the old belt now, and there are cracks next to each tooth. The edges look a little worn also. Overall, the condition of the belt is OK, but it definitely looks a little brittle. I wish I had a digi-cam so I could post a picture. If the vent kit was installed since new, I wouldn't have the belt changed. Perhaps when you hit 100K miles as a precaution. Drew 92 C2 |

I had 65K miles with no vent. The belt looked like it was 100 years old, perhaps it had been broken for quite some time. The performance difference was negligible, although I still have to doublecheck with my G-tech. It only cost about $125 to get this rebuilt, and from what I saw, I would highly recommend as a precaution every 50K miles (especially the original belt).
