Oil filling

I am relatively new to the 964 with experience in the older 911's. In the older 911's, you could add oil to the tank as fast as you could pour it. In the 964, it seems that you have to add oil very slowly or it overflows the oil receiver. Also, it seems to take considerable time after adding oil for the oil in the tank to register the level correctly ( with the engine running at idle and oil up to temp). I have found it very easy to overfill the tank. Sure do like the 964, tho. Comments, please. Thanks

964 oil changes

I hate to say this but go over to the other forum Rennlist and in the DIY section for 964 there is a post telling you about changing the oil seems like you have to add 7 quarts and start the car let it warm and then add 1/2 quart at a time. Sorry for the ref to the other site "ducking head now looking all around "

remember the car needs about 20+mins of idling time before you can check the oil .. even on a hot day.

driving the car for 20 mins is waste of time unless you are stuck in traffic.

similarly patience is very important when adding oil ... definitely a job requiring a chair and a good book.

The older cars are about the same, they just get warm quicker and the thermostat opens sooner. I think the thermostat on the 964's opens at a higher temp than the old cars. Usually I use a funnel which limits how quickly the oil gets into the tank and keeps it from pouring out. I usually add 8 quarts after a change, then drive it at slow speeds a bit to get the thermostat open.
