Want to make an easy $20???
I need someone with or access to a 993 Cabriolet with a wind deflector. I want to build my own, but I need some details. Please reference the picture below. I need measurements for X, Y, and Z. I also need some detailed photos of the attachment lugs in the purple circles. Finally, I need about 4-5 pictures (from various angles, sides, rear, quarters) of the wind deflector installed in the car with the top down. Please make sure the pictures are high quality (a 3-4 megapixel camera should suffice) and large enough to see detail (not like the dinky picture below). PM me with your e-mail address so I can get the pictures. Also include your mailing address for a check or I'll Paypal you. Thanks photobugs!!! ![]()

If I get a chance, I'll do it without charge.
However, I'd say you have way too much time on your hands. It's a beautifully engineered piece that fits perfectly. While it costs over $300 IIRC (it's been a few years), it would take a hell of a long time to build one. You will also need to fabricate the mounts it slides into that attach to the roof. The consequences of the home made version not fitting right would not be pretty.

Thanks Tom. I'm between jobs right now, so yes, I do have a lot of time on my hands. The cheapest wind deflector I could find anywhere was around $500. That's a little too much for a metal frame with some mesh across it for my tastes.
I'm not to sure what mounts you speak of. My car's top already has the mounting holes for the wind deflector. My idea is basically get some tubing that fits, weld a frame atop it, and attach some mesh. My understand is the factory wind deflector can be left in place while the top is raised and lowered. I have NO asperations of doing the same, i.e., I will remove and reinstall it manually each and every time before I move the top. And I'll still pay you because not to do so would make me feel bad. Think of it as beer money. ![]()

Happy to take and send pics and take measurements as well, but if you're in Orange County, you can come to the run on Sunday (starting from the Starbucks at Ortega and Rt 5) and take all the pics and measurements you want. There will be a few 993 cabs there (likely mine included).

Thanks Kevin. That sounds great, but I don't think I'll be able to make it this weekend. I have to take someone to the airport (LAX). But maybe, just maybe, I can drive down (with my camera and tape measure) and make an appearance before you guys depart .
I'll do my best to make it next time, but Feb. is going to be tough.

Did you get all the photos, etc. that you needed at the run this morning? If not, let me know and we'll figure something out to get you more time with my 993 or photos, etc.
