alot of questions on a 996 carrera 2 and come conversions
Ok I'm in the market for buying a 996 but i can really only afford the 99-01 model years but i really love the look of the 02+ turbo headlights, would it be possible to swap in the headlights if i just swapped in a bumper from those years? also for the turbo spoilers is it a whole new trunk lid with the wing molded? and to finish it off is there anyways possible to swap in the turbos, manifolds, piping, and intercoolers from a turbo engine on the smaller 3.4L one?

Hi - Sorry, not much help to you, but I bet if you start pricing out the bumper and associated parts, I bet you could afford an 02.
The Turbo is a much different car than the associated engine plumbing. Suspension, brakes, motor bits, etc. Plus the bodywork, intercooler intakes, etc. Nice way to spend way too much money. Suggest you try the 996 forum on Rennlist. Not too many water pumpers here on Pelican.

It sounds like you have a lot of questions here. I would tell you if you're looking to get a 996 and turn it in to a Turbo-996 you'll need to swap the motor. There is no way to expect the stock motor to handle what the Turbos will put out not to mention the fuel and a bunch of other things I won't get into. Your best option is to buy a Turbo if that's what you're looking for.
At best you can purchase a reg-996 and supercharge for around 12K adding about the same HP as a Turbo without the 4-wheel drag. For the face-lift you're looking at around 5K alone depending on your options (Xenon, bumper choices etc.) Then if you choose a GT3 or Aero bumper you'll also want to upgrade the wing to deal with the drag issues and the list goes on. If you're looking at the rear-end of the Turbo you'll need to make a 2" stretch on the side to get there,,, Not cheap by any means to get this done right (10K min) for a good shop that uses all metal when you're talking paint and all. I've seen it done but I'll tell you again it's cheaper to purchase a Turbo and save yourself some headaches..... Good Luck, -Eli |

What you propose would brake you budget. You can buy a pre-02 car and put on the GT3 Mk I body kit and have a nice looking car. Lower it appropriately with a nice kit, i.e. PSS9's. You can get very nice power from the EVO or TPC supercharger kits for much less than a turbo conversion.

turbo front look should be no problem.look on ebay....and you can put this together...you got to got to paint ofcourse...but it can be done under 4K if you are smart...and look around, don't buy new conversion (waist of money!! better to buy a 02)
the rear is wider on a turbo...but there are people who changed the turbo bumper into a narrow body one! Don't ask me how, there are turbo look rear bumpers around for 1000 and up, but changing the engine and swapping parts?!?!? and supercharger kits??! very expensive and yes it better to buy a more expensive and newer car. |
