Spoiler control module

Dear fellow drivers

I have a 1992 964 and my spoiler will randomly work. I found the spoiler control module above the passenger footwell. The plastic box is distorted like it has been over heating. I wish to replace it but I am having trouble locting someone that sells them. Any suggestions on a supplier?

Thank you kindly

I think I have one in the spare parts bin of what's been pulled off my car. Send me an email (tomllama@comcast.net).

There is one from RUF for around $300. That's the only non-Porsche one I know of. Otherwise, wrecking yards are your best bet.

I sniped a Ruf module on eBay for around $110 a few yrs. ago.

Not to hijack but.....
I just came back from a NorCal trip and mid way thru I heard the click, click , click, click of the spoiler trying to go up. Does that sound like the worm gear trying to raise and skiping the gear? I'll look at the pcar.com diy again, spoiler hasn't worked since and makes the clicking/skiping sound @ 45-48 mph every time.
Thanks

You need to determine if it is an electrical problem or a mechanical problem. Inspect the limit switches to see if they are damaged. Then determine if they are in the correct position and if each switch is activated properly. One switch engages when the spoiler is open and the other switch is activated when closed. Can you manually operate the spoiler up and down with the console switch? I would pull the worm gear motor off and check if the spoiler moves freely. This would at least narrow the cause between the spoiler binding or the motor worm gear possibly slipping. Then inspect the worm gear and motor to make sure nothing came loose and misaligned.

Good luck

Thanks Keith,

I'll check it out this week and remove the cable that drive the worm drive. I just copied the fix on the module from pcar.com

I just pulled the module and it's the brass gear the worm drive runs. 4-5 splines are pretty bad. I think I need a new gear or the complete module. Everything else tested fine, any one know of where to pick up a spoiler module?
Thanks, Rick
