Short Shift for 92 C4?
Ok, here is my question. I've done the normal maintenance on my 92 C4 and shifting has improved a bit but it's still not crisp. I have looked around for a short shift kit but no one seems to make one?
Anyone know if a kit for this car? |
These are ROW RS parts and ought to work pretty well
the lever arm is 964 424 015 08 the fork is 964 424 017 01 the rod is 964 424 020 35 M8x21.5 bolt 999 074 042 22 washer N 011 654 5 |
I tried to install the RS lever and fork in my 90 C2, but the bottom end of the lever ended up lower than the underbody panel. The underbody panel probably could have been modified to give the lever some room, but it did not seem wise to have the lever below the rest of the undertray (speedbumps come to mind).
Which part exactly is the rod - is it going from the shifter lever back to the transaxle? I did not even realize that I would have needed that part had the lever fit. I ended up going with the B&M instead. Simple bolt-in, but evidently not available for the C4. Which makes me wonder if the RS parts would even come close to working on a AWD? |
So what you're saying is that there isn't a kit for the C4?
|
Both of you might want to read through these threads
RS shift 1 RS shift 2 RS shift 3 Pay particular attention to Viperbob's comments |
Kris - you have to move the guide tube up - if you look in the tunnel you'll see there are a set of holes for this purpose.
Not that I read the instructions on www.p-car.com/diy all the way through before wondering, just like you, why the bottom of the shifter was below the pan... ;) |
Thanks, Bill and Don, for the helpful information.
However, I am still confused about one thing: Viperbob say that the pivot point (shifter guide tube) can't be moved on a C4. It has been a few months since I looked at my 90 C2, but I could swear that the shifter tube was welded in place. Is it possible that the early C2, which was several years before the RS, had the same shifter box as a C4? Also, when I go to http://www.p-car.com/diy/ I don't see any articles on shifters - what am I missing? |
Ok Bill, so if I read everything correctly my best bet is to order the following RS parts:
the lever arm is 964 424 015 08 the rod is 964 424 020 35 M8x21.5 bolt 999 074 042 22 washer N 011 654 5 I'm leaving out the fork (964 424 017 01) since I have a C4. I'm hoping to use the info you've provide plus (http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_short_shift_tindel/911_short_shift_kit_install.htm) the pelican article to help guide me. Any other resources you would recommend? Thanks |
Nope that's about the extent of my knowledge.
On mine I have the RS shift parts, solid engine and Cup trans mounts, it shifts great. |
