Turn signal switch hangs up - fix?
 

Hello my turn signal switch does not return after the turn.
I know these are one unit - steering column switch in 964's, but is there a fix or does the entire switch have to be replaced?

If you are handy they sometimes can be fixed, but usually the entire unit is just replaced. I repaired mine by grinding off the rivet heads and opening the unit. It is a bit tricky but doable.

I found that mine would not lock in one direction or release in the other. What happened was the plastic arm that retains the spring in place broke off. I was able to wedge and epoxy a washer in place to hold the spring where it belonged then it was just a simple rebuild and rivit it back together.

I just went through this on my 1991 C4. Left turn signal would not cancel, but right worked fine. All that I ended up having to do was adjust the switches out towards the steering wheel a bit, they weren't hitting the cancel lever. Made my day. Good luck.

Oh if mine was to be that easy - I have my fingers crossed!

Hopefully will getbto this in shortly - other projects jumped ahead of the line.

I took the airbag off (normal safety rules apply), took the steering wheel and column covers off, loosened the bolt that holds the switches on, moved it a little, reassembled and it worked. You could probably get to the bolt without doing all of that, but I was cleaning in there also so I was okay with taking it all apart. Good luck.
