Strange..........

Hi Newbie here.
Has anyone else had this happen?
On starting the car, in the morning, the fan switches on and operates in fits and starts. All heater switches are off. This doesn't happen after the car has been stood all day, just in the mornings.
The fan stops after about 20-30 seconds.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your CCU or a heater valve solenoid is starting to fail...

Climate Control Unit -- Yes they are pricey, but possibly available from a local wrecker much like LAPORSCHE.

Thanks Sir Parts a lot, I may take your offer after some more investigation.
Is it OK to still drive the car with this problem or am I going to damage something else?

OK, there’s some additional information on my problem.

Last night, on switching on the ignition the erratic fan thing happened again, and then I heard some ‘clicking’ from the engine compartment. I left the ignition ON, lifted the trunk and saw the ‘Rear Shift Valve’ operating. I wasn’t in reverse gear so this valve shouldn’t be operating. My ‘Essential Guide’ states this valve supplies a ground earth to the CCU.

Is this making any sense?

Is your car subject to that wiring harness recall a few years back? Weird stuff happened when wires started crossing due to the bad harness.

Not heard about this recall, what can I do to check this out.
Thanks for the input.

Just checked the recall list, the 1995 993 was never recalled???

Yes, the 1995 did have a harness recall. Call your dealer. They might be able to run your VIN in the computer and see if it has been done. If not, there is no charge to check, and no charge to replace it.

Here are two old threads regarding this:
993 Wiring harness problem

Issues with wiring harness recall?

Can I call any dealer with this question?
The car spent most of its life in Arizona, its now lives in Washington State.

Re: Strange..........

Stuart,
The best thing to do is to try to pull the code frrom the CCU, this will tell you right away what is wrong, many things can go wrong in this systems, try to find a shop with the right diagnostic equipment and have them check it, it will save you a bunch of grief, best, Antonio.

Could the Rear Blower Ballast Resistor being faulty be the solution?

It very well could be.

But a) call any dealer about the recall. and b) Since the car has a computer, instead of troubleshooting by parts replacement, consider getting the codes (as both suggested before)

The dealer was called. They assured me that no recalls applied to the car.
