Put pool water in my battery!
OK, we may need to place this in the "most stupid thing ever done" forum. I'm just not sure yet. Anyway, my battery was low on water and the pool was closer than any other water supply. So I scooped up a pint or so and used it to fill up the battery. Didn't dawn on me until a little while ago that the pool water is tainted with chlorine!

Your battery has a dilute sulfuric acid in it. If I remember my chemistry, sulfuric acid doesn't attack lead and a couple of other metals, and the chemical reaction in the battery is reversible - that's why the batteries last a long time. The Chlorine in your pool is hydrochloric acid delivered as a salt of some kind (like sodium hypochlorite, or bleach), but it is not friendly to lead. Unless you just shocked your pool, all this probably doesn't matter since the acid concentration in your pool is pretty low, relatively speaking.

Thanks for the reply BI. My chlorine level is low, only being fed by a few tablets in the skimmer. And it has just rained like crazy here and I had to drain a lot of water out of the pool. All in all, I think it's ok too. Again, thanks for the response. Jim
