ANY 911 Mechanics out there?
Hey Guys need some advice here. I just changed the combination turn signal/ wiper/cruise contol/trip computer switch assembly in my 93 911. This car has the facftory airbag installed. I now have 3 warning lights on, the airbag, power convertible top and electronic whale tail light. I checked and both the whale tail and power top are both fully retracted and in working condition. Any suggestions on where to go from here? Thanks in advance. Bill email billywhitesides1@aol.com

It's a very expensive, special tool (also called the Bosch Hammer). You don't have to go to a dealer, but you will have to go to a specialty Porsche mechanic unless you want to spring for 4 large.

Adidas, did you know you can make this scan tool yourself. I have done so and it works perfect. It will cure all your problems in about 2 minutes as you simply clear the codes from the memory of your onboard computer by hooking this scantool up to between your pc and your cars diagnostic socket. Esy Peasy. Check out this link, this will fix your problems.

Please Note however. The problem with your whale tail light will probably go out after you take the car for a ride over 8km. And your power roof light will go out once you raise it down a little and then close it again. The airbag light will need the scan tool though. Your whaletail and roof lights would have done this because you have interferred with the power supply to them while installing your new switch. This is a very common symptom with your car and is perfectly normal. It will do this when ever power is disconnected. Perfectly normal.

I replaced the same turn signal switch assembly in my '93 cab and didn't need to reset the codes. I disconnected the battery the night before the repair so there would be little chance of discharging the airbag. Maybe a longer battery disconnect might cure your problem, or maybe I just got lucky.

The key is to disconnect the battery for at least 30 minutes before removing the tach, clock or airbag. This will avoid the need to have any codes reset.
