Battery again......
Excuse the simplicity of this question but I've no idea when it comes to electrics.
Testing old battery, got a reading of 12.5 volt. Tested old battery during starting the car, as per King of Porsche P391, got a reading of less than 1 volt. Re-tested battery, got another reading of 12.5 volt. Please tell me what's going on. Thanks in advance. |

Just because the battery reads 12.5 volts under no load doesn't mean it's any good. The load test is the true test.
You load the battery with around 200amps for 15 seconds, and it shouldn't drop below 9.5 volts. So yours fails badly. It may just have a surface charge, and may need to be trickle charged overnight. Or, it may just be no good.

You didn't say why you're testing it. Assuming your car doesn't start or it starts weak and you're trying to diagnose - check your terminals for good connection and no corrosion, then check voltage across the terminals with car running. Not sure what the spec is for charging with the whimpy 993 alternator but I would assume you'd see 13.5-14.5 volts. That would tell you your alternator is healthy. If this is the case and battery dies quickly, take it to an auto parts store with a battery load tester. If it's a good battery you should recheck your terminals (especially your ground strap), then start checking for current drains on your car. blower fans stuck on seems to be a popular problem....

OK, bought a new battery, connected the in the 9 volt memory saver cigarette lighter socket. Installed the new battery, removed the memory saver, the car started and ran like a dream, the radio however asked for code. I think I found the code hand-written in the service manual so decided to chance it. Unfortunately, I typed in the incorrect code!!! All I get now is a blank screen. I disconnected the battery once more but still don't asked for a code.
Any ideas this time? Thanks again. |

Ripped from http://www.993faq.com/ ...
call 800-Porsche, give them the VIN #, they should be able to give you your radio code. Never tried it myself. Other good info on the site too, just looks like it's not maintained anymore. |

Hey, I have CR1 with the code card I'll sell you! Oh, but then you'd have to pull the radio...

Found the code hand-written in the service manual.
Put in the code, incorrectly first time, then got it right second time. Everything works fine now. |
