removing trim around door glass, rear side window trim: '91 C2
Anyone done this? I'd like to re-paint mine: previous owner's buffer spent too much time on the edges.
Mark

If you are talking about removing the black trim, you first have to remove the 1/4 glass. Its done by gently pulling the black trim that goes in the rubber gasket do it but dont bend it,then then you have to get the rubber gasket out without breaking the glass. This is done buy starting at one point of the rubber seal starting by prying the seal over the lip of the metal.Work your way around the seal, its best to have someone hold the glass from the outside.when you have got the seal completly over the metal lip press gently and the glass should come out very easily. This is providing the seal wasnt glued in as some people are known to do.Its really not that bad.it comes out pretty easily. The molding is screwed in with very small phillips head screws,be carful not to strip them, thats it then I suggest a good 2 part paint such as glasurit. The door trim comes off just buy prying off with a small screwdriver. To put the glass back in I use a piece of rope that I slide in to the rubber seal completly around until the to ends meet. Then have someone press the glass onto the car and pull the rope on one end so that the seal starts to make its way back over the metal lip.I almost forgot you have to put glass trim back in to the rubber seal befor you do anything.I was in the restoration business for 30 years hope this helps. Good luck with your project.

Thanks that does help. What about the black trim that runs along the top of the door & continues below the 1/4 window? that's the part I really need to paint as the previous owner removed the paint on the edge with a buffer. Thanks again, Mark.

So you have to remove the seal/glass to get the 1/4 trim off (to get to the screws). great.

Its really not that bad just dont be in a rush, maybe its easier to take a fine brush and use some two part paint and touch up the spot that bothers you.
